There is nothing the WORLD can do to eradicate the Italian Mafia or as a matter of fact any mafia in the world. To eradicate them you also need to be like them cold, manipulative, brutal with no regard for human life , If we all can be like this then there would be no difference between them and us. We may eradicate them but then we become them. So till the time illegal activities give surreal rewards, till the time drugs, women, weapons, corruption is the most important vice for people in this world the Mafia or any other similar organisation will exist to take full advantage of it.
The biggest reason why people get into this illegal activities is money and there is plenty of it for them as they deal with all things that we as normal human beings will never think of or dare to do. I personally think that these so called Mafia or Gang leaders are no different than the CEO’s or Bosses of big corporates. Just like in corporates the Mob Bosses need to have exceptional people management skills, they need to defend their turf from the competitors, they need to be ahead of the competition, they have to bribe government officials , they need to expand their areas of business, they work hard on retaining their customer base, they need to have a very tight grip on their finances, and many such things which happen in corporates.
So your question of eradicating the Italian Mafia is a distant dream, although over the years their numbers and the extent of their power has seriously eroded but they will never stop. You eradicate one and there would be another one ready to replace him. Even though we may call them the underworld but yet they are very much part of our society. The fact is that people who we elect to power, support and nurture these kinds of criminals for their personal gains, many many politicians are said to have been in partnership with Mob Bosses. So in such a scenario it would be difficult to eradicate Mafia from the face of this earth.
I think that you may be referring to the time when the drug cartels and the Mafia were supplying heroin/cocaine for sale and distribution throughout New York City by hiding the narcotics in pizza boxes because many or most of the illegal drugs operated out of pizza parlors. This was called the Pizza Connection, and it did occur in 1984.
Also, John Gotti had spurred the interests of the FBI before, during and after the December 1985 killing of Paul Castellano and his driver by Gotti and his crew at a parking space outside of Sparks Steak House in Manhattan, NYC. Gotti’s meeting place such as his social clubs were raided many times, too.
Now, getting back to your question, especially, “bringing down the Mafia once and for all”, that is not possible because the Mafia constitutes a variety of nationalities and ethnicities that are only there for the sacred Almighty dollar. Also, these ethnicities do compete with each other like the earlier Five Mafia Families that warred against each other, too. Because, as the saying goes…regardlessly, “In every fortune, there is a crime”.
No.Henry Hill,a Irish-Italian NY Lucchese Family associate was targeted and was forced to be am informant but even he said when the cops caught him he knew because he heard the way they talked an he said they were loud but he said if it was a wiseguy he would have never heard a thing. He would have been http://dead.As i said earlier, when you are targeted there is no getting out of it,they will get to you one way or another or they will go after your family.
The Italian mob has been around in America since the early 20th century. They’ve managed to last while having killers, cutthroats and outright lunatics among their ranks. They keep them in line by having a very clearly defined hierarchicy, a hierarchy that is totally enamored of the dollar.
If a cop were killed, and the killer was mobbed-up, police nation wide could cost them millions in very short order by paying extraordinary attention to their gambling and prostitution businesses. Also, being constantly watched and harassed would catch them carrying guns, drugs and what all. Although it has probably happened every once in a great while, the result would probably be the killer being delivered to the police, dead or alive, as the police instructed. And it would still cost them, big time.
Killing cops is bad business. Why? Because it pisses all the other cops off. The mob operates best when they operate in the dark. Police know that the mob is internationally organized, and use it to their advantage.
