The key emotion of our animal self is fear, and its associated negative emotions (anger, jealousy, territorial instinct, etc.) that help animals survive longer. However, the key emotion of our spirit self (or “soul”) is love. Our soul is eternal and indestructible, so fear is foreign to its nature. It can own and possess nothing on the Other Side, so there is no greed, jealousy, or desire to steal. Love – that’s what we are made of. And the Bible says we were created in God’s image, so the best love you feel at the best of times – that’s the real you, the soul, and it is also what God – the real God – is made of.
