The nurse knew I was very upset with our physician and rightly so, but I wanted to see him anyway. I told him that my overly “imaginative” daughter had lice. She had lice when we had last seen him, since her case didn’t pop up over the course of a week. In fact, the nurse had told me this was one of the worst infestations she had ever seen. Nice work, doc. I was the irate one now, and he knew he blew it. I told the man to not even bother giving me advice on how to get rid of the lice. I was better off without him! Honestly, I didn’t say much to that doctor other than pointing out she had lice all along. (But I was upset!)
I then spent hours combing the last of the dead lice out of her hair. I got all the nits too. Just to be safe, we went through it again a few days later. My daughter’s scalp was in such bad shape. She cried when I washed her hair and slowly went through her hair, strand by strand. The lice were the color of her hair, so it was slow going, but we finally had everything cleaned up. And yes, we washed everything or threw it out.I didn’t have the money back then to pay for a service or special salon to clean my daughter’s hair. We just had to get through it ourselves with the products found at a pharmacy’s shelves. And we did. I never saw that doctor again. Never wanted to. And now? We have an excellent physician that the whole family now sees, and most of my kids are out of the house! That’s saying something.
